Ceramic tile wear ratings. This rating does not measure the overall quality of the tile but the tile s resistance to abrasion and ability to handle foot traffic. The porcelain enamel institute pei rates ceramic tiles for wear on a scale from 1 to 5. The rating system guides appropriate application based on how glaze may wear over time. The wear rating explains how easily abrasions may show on glazed tile. The tiles are rated from a soft 1 or talc to 10.
Most of them have a wear rating of 5 but the one we like has a rating of p1. Glazed and unglazed tiles are rated for scratch resistance and hardness via the mohs scratch test.
