Cleaning Wooden Window Frames
Combine 1 tablespoon of a mild liquid detergent with 1 quart of warm water.
Cleaning wooden window frames. An annual clean with water and a mild liquid detergent is good enough for most doors including those wood doors that have been stained or painted. Wet a sponge and run it along the full frame making sure to get into cracks and crevices as well. If your window frames are particularly grubby and washing up liquid isn t quite cutting it add a teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda to give it a little more kick. Be sure to rinse off the solution then dry thoroughly.
Wipe the frames with a clean dry cloth or dry sponge to absorb any remaining liquid or moisture on the surface. This is particularly good for removing organic matter such as bird droppings and plant sap. Wipe down the frames with a damp cloth. Spray this mixture on the window frame in all the places that you just covered with baking soda.
Make sure you ve removed all of the dust and anything else that is on the top layer of grime. Fill the spray bottle with equal amounts of cleaning vinegar and water. Fill a bucket with 1 gallon of warm water and add 2 or 3 teaspoons of laundry detergent. As you clean and again six months later make a point to check the condition of your wood door.
Saturate the sills and frames with the liquid and wait 10 minutes. To remove it simply use a 3 concentration of hydrogen peroxide in a spray bottle. Allow the bleach to sit on the casings for 15 minutes to disinfect and kill any mold spores that remain. The liquid penetrates the porous material and is anti fungal and anti bacterial.
This will loosen dirt and dust making the cleaning process go smoother. 2 wash the wood window frame with the sponge and detergent solution. Put on rubber gloves and an n 95 particle mask. Scrub the window casings with this mixture using a clean rag.
Rinse the window casings well. Vacuum the big parts of dust from the floor. Sprinkle baking soda on the edge of the window frame and make sure it also gets in the corners and grooves. Alternatively use biological wash powder diluted in warm water.
Clean the sills from the dirt with a dry soft brush or a cloth. Let it air dry the rest of the way afterward. Step 6 apply antifungal paint. To properly clean wooden windows frames.
Add a few drops of dish soap and shake it well. Step 2 dip a sponge or scrub brush into the cleaning solution and thoroughly scrub the window frames to remove any mold. It is important that no amount of moisture is left on the surface as this will only encourage new mildew growth.
